The History of Coffee
Coffee’s story began centuries ago in the ancient coffee forests of Ethiopia, where legend tells of a goat herder named Kaldi who noticed his goats became energized after eating the red coffee cherries. Word of this mysterious, uplifting bean spread quickly across the Arabian Peninsula, giving rise to the first coffeehouses — known as qahveh khaneh — places where people gathered to share ideas, music, and conversation.
By the 17th century, coffee had reached Europe and soon became a global phenomenon. These early coffeehouses were often called “schools of the wise” — spaces that inspired creativity, connection, and community.
